🎶 THE RECAP: A Residency’s Final Statement
Last week at SFJAZZ closed with a sense of culmination and conversation. Michael League’s residency reached its apex in Miner Auditorium with a power‑trio finale featuring Cory Henry and Nathaniel Townsley, a set that moved fluidly between deep‑pocket groove, open improvisation, and the collective language League has been shaping across projects. The same night, Greg Osby’s return to the Joe Henderson Lab offered a sharply contrasting perspective—rooted in M‑BASE lineage, advanced harmonic inquiry, and the restless curiosity that has defined his career. Together, the weekend framed the emotional and aesthetic range that SFJAZZ now carries into February: lineage in dialogue with reinvention, intimacy alongside scale.

After the close of Michael League’s multi-night residency on February 1, the building resets ahead of a packed Black History Month lineup beginning February 11.
