Stefon Harris & Blackout/Theo Croker: Two Generations of Jazz Innovation Coming To Miner

This powerful double bill, presented as part of Terence Blanchard’s UpSwing series, brings together a veteran master and a true rising star for one electrifying night of modern jazz evolution.

First, experience vibraphonist Stefon Harris and his long-running project, Blackout. Harris, a former SFJAZZ Collective member and disciple of giants like Milt Jackson and Bobby Hutcherson, is celebrated for extending the lineage of the vibraphone into the 21st century. His Blackout project pushes past traditional jazz boundaries, embracing closely related territories like pop, R&B, and hip-hop. He will present music from his forthcoming fifth album with the band, LEGACY DANCES.

Sharing the stage is trumpeter Theo Croker, easily one of the most exciting and innovative musicians today. Mentored by the great Donald Byrd and championed by Dee Dee Bridgewater, Croker is an artist who "exemplifies this moment in jazz" (DownBeat). Grandson of trumpet legend Doc Cheatham, Croker's expansive artistry has led him to collaborate with everyone from Common to J. Cole. He will be performing material from his highly anticipated upcoming album, Dream Manifest. This double feature is a must-see look at the past, present, and future of genre-blending American music.
