The month concludes with a massive residency takeover. As Michael League (Snarky Puppy) begins his tenure as Resident Artistic Director with three distinct nights of programming, the SFJAZZ Center becomes a laboratory for global collaboration.

1. Satya

  • When: Thursday, January 29 & Friday, January 30

  • The Vibe: Rising Star Return. Oakland native Satya returns to the Bay Area with a sound crossing soul, R&B, folk, and rock. Expect a preview of unreleased material from this OSA graduate whose influences range from Prince to Mazzy Star.

2. Elipsis with Michael League

  • The Vibe: Future Folklore. Night one of Michael League’s residency debuts his all-star Elipsis project, featuring master drummer Antonio Sánchez and percussionist Pedrito Martinez. This supergroup balances deep cultural roots with unexplored musical directions.

3. Becca Stevens, Michael League & The Secret Trio

  • When: Saturday, January 31

  • Showtime: 7:30 PM

  • Where: Miner Auditorium

  • The Vibe: Global Chamber Fusion. The final night of League’s January residency focuses on his collaboration with vocalist Becca Stevens and the Balkan ensemble The Secret Trio. This is a singular experience blending Appalachian roots, Middle Eastern improvisation, and Balkan dance beats.
